Baby gate installed in Scotch Plains, NJ
Stairs are difficult for children to master, but a baby’s curiosity has no limits, and that’s why infants as young as 6 months old may try to crawl up stairs. Unfortunately at that stage of their development they are typically not coordinated enough to do so without falling, and that’s why baby gates are always required in these kinds of situations.
Child safety gates should be installed as soon as your son or daughter starts to sit up, as crawling and walking will shortly follow, and the house needs to be already baby proofed by the time this happens.
When your child is around 15, or 16 months old, by which stage he would have been walking competently for a few months already, start showing them how to walk up and down steps with your assistance. Progressively they will learn to climb staircases while holding on to the handrails.
By the time your child is two years old, he should be able to walk up and down stairs by himself. Although this may seem like a safe time to remove your child safety gate, we recommend to keep it in place until at least 3 years of age.
Pictured below is a gate Baby Safe Homes New Jersey, recently installed in Scotch Plains.
As can be seen, this white and elegant safety gate was mounted at the bottom of the staircase, and securely prevents children from climbing up the stairs and possible hurting themselves. Please note that other than being practical, this baby gate was also installed with no hole clamps to protect the wooden banister’s, and will therefore leave no damage to the furniture.
