Baby proofing a kitchen: Stove knob covers
The kitchen is the most challenging part of the home to baby proof, mainly because of all the different dangers and hazards it holds for a small child. Nevertheless, it’s the room in which families spend most of their time, so safety measures need to be put in place to make sure everyone is safe.
Install safety locks on cabinets containing detergent, pesticides and other toxic chemicals, or remove those substances all together by placing them in a spot so high your child can’t reach them. Same treatment applies to plastic bags and boxes of cling wrap. These may seem harmless objects, but the risk of a child recognizing them as toys and suffocating on them is quite high.
Store knives and other sharp tools in latched drawers and move all electrical appliances out of your child’s reach, while making especially sure that your child isn’t able to reach their cords and potentially pull a heavy toaster or coffeemaker onto himself.
Last but not least, make sure your child is unable to turn the stove on and off by himself by childproofing your stove with stove knob covers like the ones pictured below.
Please remember that although baby proofing is a great way to add a layer of protection around your home, nothing beats parent supervision, especially in a dangerous rooms such as can be a kitchen.
