Here are some things to consider when building one:
- Children like to hide in closets and under beds during fires, make sure they know to get out immediately!
- Don’t waste time gathering personal property. Get out ASAP!
- Call 911 from a trusted neighbor’s house.
- Know two ways out of each room.
- Feel closed doors prior to opening them. If they are hot, use an alternate escape route.
- Have a family meeting place.
- Designate one person to remove infants and small children from the home and then stay out. Don’t re-enter a house that is on fire. Notify firefighters of anyone who is missing.
