June is National Home Safety Month and therefore there’s no better time to sit down with your family, and your babysitters to discuss safety topics. It really only takes a few minutes. Some things to consider:
- Have smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors been checked?
- Are emergency phone numbers posted in a visible place?
- If your child is old enough to know his/her name and address, do they know to call 911 in case of emergency?
- What is your family’s fire and earthquake safety plan?
Some good reminders for parents and caregivers of small children:
- Never leave children alone, especially near water.
- Keep chemicals, food, and other small objects away from children.
- Keep sleeping areas as bare as possible.
- Make sure all electrical outlets are covered.
- Secure windows, block stairways, and lock doors.
